Summary

Summary

The third and final book in the New York Times- bestselling Remnant Chronicles.

Lia has survived Venda--but so has a great evil bent on the destruction of Morrighan. And only Lia can stop it.

With war on the horizon, Lia has no choice but to assume her role as First Daughter, as soldier--as leader. While she struggles to reach Morrighan and warn them, she finds herself at cross-purposes with Rafe and suspicious of Kaden, who has hunted her down.

In this heart-stopping conclusion to the Remnant Chronicles trilogy that started with The Kiss of Deception and The Heart of Betrayal , traitors must be rooted out, sacrifices must be made, and impossible odds must be overcome as the future of every kingdom hangs in the balance. New York Times -bestselling author Mary E. Pearson's combination of intrigue, suspense, romance, and action makes this a riveting YA page-turner for teens.

Horn Book Review

Having escaped from Venda at the end of the previous book, The Heart of Betrayal (rev. 7/15), Lia and Rafe must warn their respective kingdoms, Morrighan and Dalbreck, of the impending invasion (the endpaper maps help orient readers). Kaden tracks them down and, as usual, complicates matters. He still has feelings for Lia, but she clearly prefers Rafe. Moreover, Kaden has a score to settle with his traitorous father who, in a surprise twist, holds a high position in the Morrighese cabinet; Lia moves to thwart all of the traitors in the cabinet and prepare the kingdom for war. Pearson is an excellent storyteller, and she manages to develop plot, character, and setting by rotating the point of view among the three protagonists in the love triangle. She brings an ambitious trilogy to a rousing conclusion, and any missteps along the way--a vague (if tantalizing) world mythology; omitting how Rafe ditches a politically motivated betrothal--pale next to this accomplishment. jonathan hunt (c) Copyright 2017.
